Project Type: Hospitality
Location: Glassboro, New Jersey
Area: Converting an existing dining room and closed porch into a new, open porch-like setting.
The Landmark Americana Tap & Grill sits one block off of the developing hub of Rowan Boulevard at Rowan University. With additional campus housing and commercial development currently under construction around them, owner David Goldman saw this as an opportunity to expand his restaurant operations and provide the customers with an outdoor dining and bar experience while still indoors.
David contracted Lighthouse Architecture to design a porch-like addition to the building that would appeal to the increasing foot traffic being generated by the expanding campus.
Principal Architect Pete Porretta, AIA and his team at Lighthouse Architecture designed an enclosed, climate controlled dining/bar experience featuring the main bar under a timber-framed pergola.
This bar area features multiple beer taps and sports bar TVs. Guests will be able to take in the vibrancy of Rowan University campus life with the restaurant’s new porch bar situated right at the intersection of Mullica Hill Road (NJ Rte 322) and N Main Street.
By expanding the dining onto the porch, raising the ceiling and installing retractable exterior glass exterior walls, diners can take in the college town vibe happening in the area.
The pergola constructed over the bar is also accented with specialty lighting to accentuate the openness of the new area, giving it a welcoming outdoor feel with indoor climate control convenience.
The new space is now open.
“Working with owner, David Goldman and his team was a very positive experience. His concepts were well thought out, he has a good understanding of design, construction and project management,” said Porretta.
He assembled a quality team of engineers and managed the team with precision.
That team included Lighthouse Architecture for architecture and interior design, FXB Engineering, providing mechanical, plumbing, electrical and fire safety engineering, ConnShaffer Consulting Engineers for structural engineering and E. L. Bagden, Inc. as the general contractor.
David Goldman, owner of Landmark Americana
We contracted Peter Porretta of Lighthouse Architecture to help us convert a corner of our restaurant into a covered patio that we could also keep open all year.
He was able to create designs for major structural work to accomplish our goal of expanded space.
He was creative and knowledgeable and we are very happy with what he designed for us.
